Saw you for the first time at Cropredy this year and I was blown away. So long since I've heard anyone sing with such heartfelt passion and integrity. Your spirit shone through and touched my soul. I'll be seeing you again in Rugby later this year and I just can't wait to hear more of your music....

like may others here,I thoroughly enjoyed your set at Cropredy. It was passionate, humorous, intense, fresh and inspiring by turns. That takes some doing and it was a great success. Real lump in the throat moment having your daughter there to see it. looking forward to seeing you at the Sage Gateshead in December. if anything has persuaded me to put down the electric for a while and go find an acoustic it was your work last Saturday. great stuff.

Saw you in November at Kilburn and then at Cropredy . Your song "Cardiff Bay" inspired me to write a song for my own son on his 30th B'day. When I sing it I always mention how it came about ! It is callled "30 years on" Thank you for your great music and lyrics.

A truely wonderful set at Cropredy despite the rain, brought a lump my throat and to that of some other burly guys I was with. As ever a pleasure and a privilege to say "Hi" again. Another convert made who is usually into Metallica etc, he was totally blown away. Thank you. See you in the Autumn.

I wanted to say thank you after seeing you at Cropredy on Saturday night. I am, I have to admit, one of those you mentioned- who had not heard much if any of your music. That is a major ommission which I now need to put right. Your set was one of the highlights of my weekend. Thanks again and I will be looking out for the opportunity to see you perform again and I will make sure that as many of my friends and colleagues as possible get to hear your work.

Martyn your excellent performance was the definitely highlight of Fairport's Cropredy Convention festival this weekend... For both myself and my Dad! You cheered us through the slightly dismal weather. Thanks for a wonderful show, I look forward to hearing more of your music in the future.

Martyn, I caught your set yesterday at Cropredy and was absolutely blown away. You were one of the highlights of an amazing weekend (despite the weather). It was a real scramble to get hold of your CD's in the Properganda tent afterwards and by the time I was sorted the line for signings seemed to stretch 3 times around the festival. I would liked to have met you but you know how it is....... Well fairport were about to start.... Thanks for a brilliant performance. I hope to catch you again soon

Thanks for the gig in Aberdour last week - I am another convert, blown away by the songs, the singing, the guitar playing and the banter. Just a magical evening right down to the kisses and handshakes at the end of the night. I am still boring everyone who will listen about how brilliant it was - kept my wife up late giving her a full detailed review when I got in that night! I have some friends coming to see you blow Fairport off the stage at Cropedy this weekend and I will be heading to Edinburgh in December.

Thank you for a wonderful show at Aberdour Festival last night - you may have been billed as the as the Welsh Springsteen (and to be honest, that's why we were there), but it was your own songs with their heartbreaking lyrics and haunting melodies that made the night so special. Your banter was good too! I've started my collection of your CDs and hope to see you again in Edinburgh later in the year. Thank you for a brilliant night!!

Together with the video now on YouTube, I could almost be pursuaded to take up the game myself! (Almost...) ;0) Absolutely beautiful. It deserves to be part of the coverage because if it touches a non-golfer like myself, I can only imagine what it would mean to someone who loves the game as you do. I can picture a golfer showing it to a friend who doesn't get it and saying 'There - THAT'S what it means to me!' (I'm enthusing over a song about golf! The world seems..... different.) Take care, Martyn. :0) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weH-5dDLZi0

Martyn & Stewart - what a rich tapestry you both wove in our church's sanctuary last Friday evening here in Clarkson, Mississauga. Your melodic depth with both your incredible voice and your driving rhythmic guitar presence rocked our 50 year old church rafters and hung around until Sunday morning!! Stewart you are so charming & witty and just a great messenger for revealing God's truths to this boken world of ours the way only you do1 HE has purposed you with a great gift and talent for delivering the spoken word. Caught your interview Saturday on the Drew Marshall Show. Wow, you both made it through T.O. with the Gardiner being closed Good on ya, ..and then survived Drew's interrogation ..err interview! Just kidding, he knows he's loved in these parts. I'm praying for safety for your journey Martyn and Stewart & have a fun time collecting more Canadian slang on this roadtrip through Ontario. A HUGE thank you Martyn and co for a truly wonderful evening in Wellington.... Somerset. More precious moments than can be listed here but suffice it to say that it was a beautiful, beautiful evening, despite the rain outside. Even at the end of a such a long run of dates, we neither saw nor heard any sign of fatigue; only the spirit, energy and love that we have all come to recognise as being at the heart of your music. That said, I imagine you're feeling knackered!! Your music lifts and inspires me more now than ever and the new material continues to affirm that you are - in my view - at the height of your writing and performing powers. Very best wishes for the recording of the new album, which I have a hunch, will be your finest yet. (No pressure.) :0) Needless to say that my better half, Becky, also had a fantastic time, although we did disagree on one point: I thought your impromptu music stand was kinda cool but she thinks that it probably wouldn't be good for much else. Keep walking.... :0)

Hi Martyn, Just got home from Wellington (in Somerset!!!). Thank you for a fantastic evening, we had a great time. We've seen you many times but would just like to say that tonight was something special. I also found myself laughing and smiling a lot - not something MJ songs usually make you do - but I think it was the bits in between that made the evening so enjoyable, and especially the audience participation. It goes without saying that as usual, the music was brilliant. Thanks again, enjoy your rest and best of luck with the recording of the new album. xx

Thanks for a great evening in Northampton. I have been a fan for while since aching and a longing. However I missed your performance at Greenbelt in 93, (due to an argument with girlfriend at the time). So I only saw you last year in Banbury. I have been so blown away with how you have changed ( a good thing) musically. That I have had to go out and get almost all your back catalogue. Your show on Thursday was excellent. Your song writing seems to hit the right tempo. Keep it up Ilook forward to new album and seeing you again.

Hi Martyn, thanks again for a great gig in the quite splendid Abbeyfield School theatre last night. You treated the small but perfectly formed crowd to the consistently passionate and sincere delivery which for me separates you completely from the herd. I don't know how you do it, but you can any make arena, club, or converted chapel (Port Isaac!) feel like every person in the auditorium's living room. It's a rare and cherishable gift. Good luck with the recording and see you back at the Stables in November if not before.

Biddulph on Wednesday was amazing. We were front row, stage left...talk about 'up close and personal'. Sound was fantastic, great set (there's always something that I'd like you to have done..."Dic Penderyn" this time) but the whole show, or dinner party, was great. Thank you again for almost 30 years of music...first saw you at Greenbelt back in the early 80's and can't remember how many times since. Loads of different venues from a tent at Alton Towers, through 'dodgy' pubs in Stoke to the Sheffield Arena and of course in the open air at Greenbelt and Aintree...ah memories! Thanks Martyn! Mike

Thought the new stuff sounded really good, along with the usual great mix of some familar and some not so familiar old stuff. Also, songs like America and On my Way continue to evolve (excuse the pun, couldn't resist!!) the more you play them live. Hi, Superb concert in Birmingham last night. Martyn was great fun and played a brilliant mix of old and new songs. Always feel happy, renewed and just a little bit reflective after Martyn's concerts. Venue was like being in a '70's time warp with disco ball lighting and the smell of stale beer - however, Martyn seemed to enjoy it and it definitely added something to the night - yet can't help but think that Martyn deserves something a little more palatial - perhaps MAC ?! - reopens May'10 :0)

My daughter Lorraine and I thought your concert in Basingstoke last night was amazing, you are getting better every time we see you, and we have been following you for 20+ years now. Really enjoyed all the new songs as well as the ones we already knew and looking forward to the new cd. Hope you had a good couple of days off with your family.

Hi Martyn We've become real admirers of yours since seeing you way back with Show of Hands and have seen you a number of times since. However, the gig at the Centre Stage, Bournemouth was a real joy. The intimacy of the surroundings and your new sound system brought out the best in you and your music. Thanks for 'Cardiff Bay' - a real Dad's song! To the next time - Love, light and peace Rick & Gren

Hi Martyn. Thank you so much for the show tonight down county in Trowbridge, quite an unusual venue and new to us!! Haven't seen you for nearly a year and have really missed out. I especially loved the Seahorse song, have always felt drawn to seahorses but not sure why...hope to hear the finished version soon : ) Good to hear some from the 'Far from silent' album too. Thank you for the Springsteen and the way you explained the poetry so respectfully. Am in Canton tomorrow for a rehearsal at Calvary Baptist then down to the bay for lunch so I'll wave hello for you. Love Janet x

Well, judging by my experience at The Globe in Topsham, Steve P and all the other lucky ticket holders are in for a treat. If you've ever imagined being at a party in someone's front room and Martyn just happens to be there with his guitar, then you'd do well to head to Topsham next time he's down this way. As seems to happen each time I go to one of his gigs I end up chatting happily to neighbours (Pippa - did you enjoy the evening? And what did your husband make of his first MJ concert?). There was a fine selection of old favourites and new contenders for the forthcoming album, and I was lucky to hear Martyn's musings on how these plans may pan out. Suffice to say there's much to look forward to. As for Topsham, well the light switches by the door were flicked in a sort of trial and error approach, and this was just as likely to shroud Martyn in darkness as much as the audience. We marvelled at Martyn's rendition of People 'Forgetful' as Me. "It's a good song, if only I could remember the lyrics!" There's a good story there which I'm sure Martyn will recount at future shows. Going along to these gigs and not saying hello to the lovely people at Pipe Records wouldn't feel right these days. So, a big thank you to Nikki and Pat who, in spite of being rushed off their feet, still make time to make us fans feel so welcome. I'm sure I'm not the only one who really appreciates it. The only downside was a friend who was due to drive us there was down with the 'flu, so I cycled to and from the gig. Nikki even laid on the mildest night we've had since October. Perfect. Good luck with the rest of the tour, happy 30th anniversary on the road - and come back to Vegas on Exe soon!

Hi Martyn - just writing to offer my overdue thanks to you and all at Pipe Towers for PQ41 and its CD. A great read (as always) and a fantastic collection of rare and unheard material from days gone by; more than worth the annual £8 alone. Have a great Spring Tour and see you at the finishing post in Wellington!!

Hi Martyn, I am a new fan! Saw you last night at Hailsham Pavillion (no I don't live there) and was totally blown away by your music and your performance. Loved every song. Thanks very much for coming all the way from Memphis, it is really appreciated. I met fans of yours yesterday who travelled across continents to see you play and I can really understand why. I look forward to seeing you again soon and getting the new album when you've finished it. Basically... a HUGE thanks!!! Kindest regards, Jon

Hi Martyn! Do you have plans to come over and visit us in Belfast in the next tour or two? We love you dearly, but you never visit any more ;-) (A few years ago, I would be getting along to 4or5 MJ gigs in a single year -counting Greenbelt- but its all gone a bit quiet more recently, and it's so much harder to introduce new converts!...) Many thanks for the demos on PQ41 - really interesting to hear how these songs started out. It was very odd hearing the "pop" origins of "Have an Angel Walk With Her", but enjoyable. :-) Grace and peace.

Martyn at Christ Church Cathedral, Oxford last night was extraordinary. I have seen him play several different venues but nothing like this. He seemed to be influenced by the beautiful surroundings and very relaxed within that environment, He spoke so well about his faith, the impact of music etc. He shook hands and spoke to everyone afterwards and was so nice. Well done Christ Church for trying something different to and well done Martyn for rising to the challenge. Come again anytime!

Martyn - thanks so much for putting the 1993 stuff on PQ41. It has brought back some very happy memories of my student days, when myself and two housemates all played the Sony album simultaneously when we should have been revising... I particularly enjoyed "Gift to Me" and the version of "Carried in Sunlight", hearing them takes me straight back to a chilly student room, poring over my theology books, watching West Country rain fall outside. In today's rain I have got out all the really old albums - yes even the ones on cassette - and had a great nostalgic wallowfest. Thanks so much.

Ben - I've read your plea for the Faith, Folk and Anarchy Live album. It might be worth asking at your local library, particularly as they can access the database for all the libraries in your county. An enlightened librarian in Exeter must have ordered a copy after the boys came to town. I didn't know Martyn's music at that time, but a few years later I was browsing through the CDs in the library and came across it. As soon as I heard Strange Way, Thunder and Rainbows and Please Sir I knew I'd come across something special. I was also pleased to see Mr Faith and Mr Folk were due to visit Exeter shortly afterwards (Mr Anarchy had reached for his bovril and slippers, I think). The first of many fine gigs I've enjoyed of Martyn's. I hope this helps. Good luck. Simon

I'd like to echo Steph's words. As a PQ Newbie I was delighted to receive my copy in the post the other day. I wish I hadn't left it so late. Still, much to look forward to, it seems. Some great songs on there, and a mark of the quality of Martyn's songwriting that many of these didn't make the cut. Really enjoyed the interview and performance on US television during a tea break at work today. Thanks for making the link available as I wasn't able to see it live. Safe journey home, Martyn, and I'll look forward to coming along to support the UK spring tour.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make available an MP3 download of the Faith Folk and Anarchy LIVE album from yesteryear! I only have the studio album. The live gig (Phoenix Theatre Leicester 2002) remains one of the most amazing gigs I have ever been to (up there with U2 360 and Dave Matthews at Austin City Limits). As someone who illegally downloads a lot of music, this is one album I would happily pay for!

Martyn gave a spectacular performance at Fox Run Concerts in Sudbury, Massachusetts. The next day he was off for a show in New York and then down to the Nation's capitol that evening. I'm hoping he didn't get stuck in a snow drift. Two feet of snow is a lot in New England, but in DC it's the end of the world. Hopefully Martyn will be able to get to DC and, more importantly, get out to continue his North American tour and then return home for a few days rest before embarking on the British tour.

We had the pleasure of being introduced to Martyn at a very intimate in-house concert at Mike and Paula's Accoustic Roof in Boutiliers Point Nova Scotia this week. Words really can't describe how fortunate we were to be in a room of 50 people listening to this fantastic performer for two hours! Time flew as we listened to not just the story in the song but Martyn's spoken word between songs which went from very amusing to very very touching. Thank you for sharing the tune dedicated to your Grand Father, it touched us all. We are so pleased to have discovered your music and will certainly not miss your next performance here in Nova Scotia.

Martyn spun his magic on the audience at the Mission Hall on Friday night, he had us all "Sing"ing on the first song, he did "Wake Me Up", shared images of "Cardiff", showered us with "Kindness", made the "Invisible" "Proud Valley Boy", "Change", the way "Time" is "Carried" and "Love Is" the way to "Vegas"!!! He'd "Turn Me Tender" every time he hit a high note. I hope he watched the Canucks come back and beat TO tonight while he's there. We really enjoyed your show, come back any time.

Your presence, your gift of story telling and authenticity with your music are magical combinations. We are the priviledged ones who were there at the Garage last night to be sure. You do so sing to our souls. And really hoping that your next trip to Canada will include the Island Music Festival in Courtney, BC in July, 2010! Just wanted to say thanks for a great show at the Duncan Garage. I appreciate so much your willingness to play the small venues, it is so much more intimate. I have a very hectic life as foster parent, parent and music teacher, and don't have time to go to the city for concerts, so it was a special evening for me. Talked to 2 men before the show who had never heard you, and I told them they would love it, and afterwards saw them clutching CDs so I know they did! Two other things - if you are going to be a CANUCKS fan you will have to learn to spell it. And when you are in Kelowna, don't kiss a blonde woman with glasses named Phyllis, she is my sister and already bragging about the other 2 times you did!

Thank you for yet another wonderful concert, this time in Cardiff. I spent the weekend in Cardiff Bay with my sister and saw Les Miserables on Saturday evening and you on Sunday both at the WMC - definitely the best Christmas trip we’ve had. I was interested to learn from your Diary that you have been commissioned to write songs to commemorate the Tonypandy riots next year. My Mum was born in Tonypandy in 1917 and therefore many of my past family lived through the riots. I never thought about this too much until I read Alexander Cordell’s This Sweet and Bitter Earth which, along with some ancestry research I had done, made it real for me. Heartbreaking and so frustrating that I can’t talk to them about it. As my Mum aged she found it difficult to read anything but large print books and as I had read some of Alexander Cordell’s novels (on your recommendation) I thought she would like them and managed to find some used large print editions for her. At last she had something interesting to read in large print. She loved them and each evening would tell me the story so far – I never needed to read them myself! Sadly, my lovely Mum died last year at the age of 91. So, thank you Martyn for the wonderful ripple effect you have. You continue to bless and inspire us on many levels. Love, Penny x

Re Cardiff - I forgot yesterday to make special mention in my post of an on stage guest appearance by none other than Martyn's daughter, Harriet, on violin. She accompanied her Dad on Cardiff Bay before they both went into an instrumental, naturally with a very proud Martyn giving the floor to his daughter who, it has to be said, did a fantastic job. It was a lovely part of the evening and not just because it was touching to see Father and Daughter clearly relishing making music together, but also because Harriet genuinely brought another dimension to the song(s). Martyn was bursting with pride and I hope Harriet's proud of herself too - she should be!

An extraordinary night in Cardiff. Thank you Martyn for a wonderful year's music which you sealed in triumph on the Bay last Sunday. You spoke of the passion that still burns to carry on doing what you do and I trust it will continue with you through 2010 and beyond - I know it will. It saturates every note you play and word you sing; it's the essence of what draws us in and keeps us there and I've no doubt that the new year will reveal new expressions of that fire as it continues to burn within. May you have a restful and happy Christmas.

Even the melancholy songs leave you feeling postive and strong inside. He reaches the people and and cuts to the core of humanity. If the recording of last night is released we want to know about it. Such a wonderful experience to share and see Martyn so proud to play in his home town. Of course, it won't be JUST Cardiff, will it? I suspect we'll be in for a rockin' tour finale and a fitting end to a hugely successful run of dates. Great night at Penzance yesterday. We'd persuaded three friends to come and they enjoyed it as much as did. My first encounter was right at the beginning - one guitar and a small amp in a Baptist chapel in Pontypool. Last night, five guitars incuding that fabulous Gretsch but the passion is still the thing that counts. Thanks for the journey and the desire to kick the darkness.

To Martyn and the lovely, friendly team at Pipe, heartfelt thanks from deepest, darkest Devon for a great session at The Barnfield. They told me that it would be even better than last year and so it proved. Songs of light and shade, chairs leapt upon to drive the message home, incidental strumming while audience members were invited to come to the front to enjoy the warmth. And how you belted up and down the aisles whilst playing the guitar was a marvel. It was also a great opportunity to chat to fellow fans. Special commendation to Mr Steve Pledger for his enthusiasm in proclaiming the joys of the Passport Queue. Yes, I'm scrimping and saving for a family Christmas, but signing up is a festive present to myself. Steve - it was a pleasure to make your acquaintance. Clearly we both enjoy singing from the same hymn sheet that is the Gospel according to Joseph. Sing heartily for absent friends at the end of the tour in Cardiff, would you? Martyn, I was intrigued at the thought of your writing a song about the seahorse, the male of the species bearing the pregnancy. Can anybody help you out with a title for the track? My suggestion would be Seahorses Make Me Sigh. Or, if you've already considered that, how about Whoever it was who brought me these will have to pay the bills. I look forward to gigs to come when we can all do it all over again for more special memories. Happy Christmas. Simon

I saw you at Cardigan on November 19th and was there with my wife and son (my wife Penny has seen you before as she mentioned to you). I can honestly say that I've never enjoyed a performance so much. I was dumbstruck by your phenomenal skills on the guitars and touched by a lot of your lyrics. Thank you. Please come back to West Wales soon, preferably Pembrokeshire!

Really enjoyed your Cardigan concert Martyn and thank you for indulging me and singing Dic Penderyn - even though it meant changing guitars! I heard a lady chatting in the loos after the gig and she said it was the best concert she'd been to in years - thought you'd like to know. p.s. are you going to play with Show of Hands again in Wales anytime soon - enjoyed it last time I saw you with them in Cardigan. pps. Bring sunshine next time!

G'day Martyn I just wanted to thank you for yet another great show in Cardigan. I brought along a friend of mine who had not had the pleasure of hearing you, and he is now hooked. I must say I envy people who get to hear you for the first time as I've been a fan for a very long time and I know how good it is going to be, but to have the moment when you discover something new is truely special. Thanks again

Was at the concert at the Lowry on Friday 13th November, absolutely terrific, best perfomance yet. Martyn seemed relaxed and fresh, perhaps because of his par at the 18th at Royal Lytham! Keep it up Martyn, looking forward to the album next year. Offcial Bootleg album well worth a buy.

Thanks for another great gig in the Netherlands! 4 years ago me and William drove all the way to Brussels to see you and there you promised to come to Holland soon. Thanks for keeping the promise and being in NL for 3 years in a row. We enjoyed the show in Uden last weekend, it was marvellous. Hopefully we see you next year again: rain or shine.......

Martyn, finally you got back! This year we could see 3 of the 4 gigs on this side of the ocean. And every gig was a little party for us. Yes, you can call us 'crazy people' but we like to continue this way ! Every time we visit Fagot in Ingelmunster it feels like coming home. Really! Such a lovely people. And you gave us some beautiful new songs (specially '5 daughters'). Also thanks for the request 'Wake me up' that Liselot and her girlfriend asked for. Leiden: two years ago you sang in a small cd-store, changing your clothes in the car. Now it was allready in a (new) concertplace - Qbus - with your own dressingroom...! What will it be next year? A special little gig in a cd-store in Gemert. Great. I allready knew but now I'm sure: in Gemert you showed me again : you have the heart in the right place. And a special thanks for coming again to Uden, a small theatre called Naat Piek. You told us you get wet of raindrops getting down from the roof. The joke was that Uden had a lovely decor of six umbrellas (coincidence doesn't exists) ......but they were standing on the wrong places ! Martyn : we had a great week with a lot of memories (you know why). It's an honour to know you. Thank you, Martyn, for all you give. You probably don't even know. Hope you got home safely. Many kisses, Judea, xxx

Also thanks for playing 'walk down the mountain' and 'people crazy as me' and all the other great songs. I also love the new songs! (I'm still singing 'on my way') And I still have that smile on my face when I think back.... I appreciate it a lot that you do the effort for coming back every year to that small country with it's great chocolate and beer! It's a privilige to know such a wonderfull artist! Hope to see you back soon (who knows, maybe in Wales or the UK somewhere....) All the best, Lieselot x

Hey Martyn, Yesterday at De Fagot (Ingelmunster) I experienced an unforgettable evening and I have you to thank for. Thank you for your genuine kindness, your inspiring words, the feeling of unity you created when the whole audience sang "I'm on my way...". Today I woke up with a smile on my face and the world seemed a bit better and brighter because of what I had heard the night before. So again, thank you. And may you return many times more to that little cafe hidden somewhere in the Flemish meadows. Sincerely, Sielke

Embarrassed to now learn you've been here and I missed it!! 3 young children can remove you from the music scene. Very pleased to hear you'll be in Halifax this February. Will be at "The Carlton" with the missus for her birthday present. If I bring her there I guess I'll have to bring her home ..............

Good morning Martyn. We are enjoying Thanksgiving in Canada today - and thinking this morning about the year past and the things I am thankful for, I thought about the workshop you presented here in Toronto on September 9 in the beautiful St. Anne's Church. Thanks for sharing your music, experiences, values, beliefs and wisdom with us in a very special way. As a novice songwriter and lover of the guitar, I learnt so much. Hi Martin, caught the end of your interview of Radio 2 this morning. Enjoyed the song. Though must admit to not being very up on whats going on in music. When you were talking to the interviewer about questions and answers it brought to mind some thing I read recently from the newly published "Aletheon" by Adi Da Samraj. I wanted to share it with you . Its from the opening of the chapter on Perfect Ignorance. "Knowing " no "answers" Is the Intrinsically egolessand Self -Evidently Divine State of Perfect Freedom. "Knowing " no "questions" Is the Intrinsically egoless and Self -Evidently Divine State of Perfect Peace. Cheers

Just a very brief note to say how much we enjoyed the show at St Donats on Saturday night. The frog in your throat brought a new sound to the stage, but the gig was excellent as always - thought that your rendition of 5 sisters was very moving. It was also great to hear how On my Way has developed - we heard you try it out at the Barnardo's gig in the Globe some months ago. Thanks also for introducing Steve - hadn't heard his music before - man the guy can make that guitar talk, and such a nice fellow with it. Cant wait for the Cardiff gig just before Chrismas now. cheers

Hello there Martyn, I would just like to thank you for putting on such a great show in Caernarvon on the 2/10/09. I have been a fan for many years and I have been banging on about you to anyone who will listen, I drove up from Carmarthen and managed to persuade 4 friends to come along one of whom was the infamous "Dave", it's always a worry when you recommend someone to others as it all boils down to individual taste, however you truely delivered and now have 4 more fans. I am already looking forward to Cardigan. Finally what a great setting it felt like we could have been in your front room. Thanks again best wishes

hi Martyn, I just wanted a say an extra special thank you for the show at St Donats last night. It was fantastic despite the fact that you were obviously suffering with a throat related problem. I think that many a performer would have cancelled the show or cut it short but you kept going and your passion carried you through and it was fab!! Looking forward to Cardiff in December. Hoping you feel better fast, love jude xx

Thanks Martyn for the utterly wonderful show last night in Chester. One I will never forget! It was a really great set and perfect mix of 'old' and new songs, stories, poignant lyrics and laughter. I had so much fun and did much reflecting (as your music always makes me do -- I wouldn't have it any other way!). I think nearly everyone in Telford's was along for the ride with you every step of the way, and the impressions and the storytelling were a hoot! And thank you for playing 'All This Time' at my request in the encore, it was the cap to an already magical evening and being from British Columbia the song always reminds me of home. Can't wait to see the new tracks get recorded. Don't let that Tom-Tom lead you too far astray, I want to see you back again! :)

Martyn has often alluded to his group of 'spiritual refugees'...well if we are, then Pipefest 2 was a homecoming...a community of strangers finding a place of belonging in a common belief in the wonderful music and lyric that is the Martyn Joseph/Stewart Henderson partnership. Their wit, their wisdom, their relentless search for justice, their depth of friendship, the kindred spirits...we were privileged not only to be witness to this but to be invited in. To hear Brothers in Exile is awesome but to listen to it given by both Martyn and Stewart together took it to another level completely. Thank you is not a big enough word.!

Pipefest was wonderful! The whole day was great, plenty of things going on all day and everything was so beautifully organised, with the pace just right. I go to many fan conventions and this topped them all for content, organisation, enjoyment and value for money. Both Because we can and Martyn's solo set were wonderful, the quiz was great fun, the workshop and the Q and A sessions gave plenty of food for thought. And the food was magnificent, especially the Banoffee Pie and the Lemon Drizzle Cake! And the free CD was a lovely extra treat. Huge thanks to Nikki and Martin at Pipe, the team of volunteers and Kevin who did such a great job, and of course Martyn and Stewart for making the day so special. Please can we do it all again next year!

What can I say? Pipefest II was everything - and more! - than I could have hoped it would be. The biggest of 'THANK YOUs' to everyone who made it happen and ensured that it was a day which will not be forgotten. I can't even hope to describe here just what a glorious time was had. So many wonderful, wonderful people there; many of whom I'd never before met. Every aspect of the day was a success and a joy to experience. Stewart's poetry workshop was beyond inspiring and having the privilege of spending a short time in conversation with the great man only served to affirm Martyn's assertion that he is both a wise and lovely fella. A more humble, generous and pleasant chap you couldn't hope to meet! It isn't possible to mention all that was great and good about Pipefest 2009 here, but it would be remiss of me beyond forgiveness, not to mention the man himself. Martyn: your music and all that you are prepared to give of yourself besides, continues to move and inspire and uplift me. Yesterday was such a wonderful day and your performances (such an inadequate word) on your own and with Stewart, were further proof if proof were needed, that as an artist and communicator you are second to none. The new song which we were so privileged to hear was as worthy an addition to the MJ canon as any of your most treasured works. I know that many worked so, SO hard to make yesterday happen but of course the truth is, it only came about in the first place - and we only showed up! - because of you, your guitar and your beautiful songs. Thank you for giving us the time you gave and even being prepared to lay aside your dignity on at least one occasion!! I can't articulate how your music has enriched my life in so many ways, but I hope that maybe somehow... you already know. Wishing you peace - Steve

Well I just finished listening to the two CD'S I purchased this weekend at the Shelter Valley Festival and I have to tell you I am blown away by the sincerity and compassion you carve into your words. I had never heard your name before I watched you perform on stage on Friday evening and Wow I have a lot of catching up to do, and a lot of money to spend on the rest of the 28 CD'S I don't yet have! When you dedicated 'Turn Me Tender' to Mrs. Henkle it brought tears to my eyes. That song seems to me to have such deep meaning and I would love to have the oppurtunity to talk to you about it some day, perhaps when you come to Peterborough again. Your performances were unbelievable and I look forward to getting to know your music like one gets to know a good friend. I have been writing as a hobby since I was a small child and you have really inspired me to speak the truth about what I feel in my words and to not be afraid to let other people hear it. God Bless you Martyn.

Thanks for your wonderful gifts of music this weekend at Shelter Valley. Question - on Friday night, you led us through a beautiful chorus and for the life of me, and lack of a pen at the time, I've forgotten it...you mentioned it was a new song...and the only words that i remember this few days later (and the wonderful feeling I had) were in the refrain...."loving and stumbling and..." Would love to know its lyrics and title - to be released soon? Thanks so much....you are a wonderful, gentle, lovely man.

enjoyed listening to you this weekend at Shelter Valley. Was struck by your willingness to share the stage in a most collaborative way whether you were with a pro like Steve Slade or a newbie like court Lajoie. Your enthusiasm, warmth and ability to get your message across closed the gap between performer and audience. You brought back many memories of the most earnest folkies of the late '60s but you vary your repertoire so that it isn't just one message tune after another. thanks. Sort of like the late Phil Ochs but with a sense of humour

Saw Martyn at Greenbelt this year (once again). Everyone from our group who went felt that this was a highlight of the festival seeing him and Stewart Henderson perform together. However, the highlight for me was Martyn's contribution in "Never mind the Baptists" hosted by Simon Mayo...... he was not good at recognising his own songs when played on an accordian by the mad proffesor! Will have to send in the video I shot in there of Martyn singing ABBA's super trouper to the tune "Abide with me".!

I recently saw Martyn at the Kitchen Garden Cafe in Kings Heath Birmingham - I bought tickets mainly because a friend was visting from Japan and I thought it would be an interesting night. I last saw Martyn many many years ago at Greenbelt when it used to be held at Knebworth. After the gig at the Kitchen Garden Cafe I am completely hooked again - a fabulous performance, moving, challenging and thought provoking - and what a voice! We both bought 'Evolved' whch has been played dozens of times since. I have booked for the Countess of Huntindon Hall in Worcester in November and will look out for future tours.

I want to pay tribute to to the wonderful gift bestowed upon you Martyn, You have the ability to touches souls at the deepest level of their being. What I admire in you, alongside your brilliant song writing and singing ability, is the fact that you sing an attitude of gratitude to life, love and the Universe. You lyrics and music talk to our experiences, in all their sadness and joy, and serve to let us know the interconnectedness that prevails all life , and also lets us know that we are not alone in our striving to understand and give meaning to our everyday lives. I am so looking forward to seeing you live at Norwich Arts centre in November. In the words Of J O Donohoe , my homelands greatest writer, mystic and philospher." The journey shows you that from this inner dedication you can reconstruct your own values and action. You develop from your own self-compassion a great compassion for others. You are no longer caught in the false game of judgement, comparison and assumption. More naked now than ever, you begin to feel truly alive. You begin to trust the music of your own soul; you have inherited treasure that no one will ever be able to take from you. At the deepest level, this adventure of growth is in fact a transfigurative conversation with your own death. And when the time comes for you to leave, the view from your death bed will show a life of growth that gladdens the heart and takes away all fear." That's not me wishing your passing or anything...lol Blessing , Love and Light Rosenda

Re latest diary: I must confess that I've never really 'got' golf, though I know many who play and who share the passion expressed by MJ and James Lawton. Like many sports though, I can admire it when I watch. That said, you have to salute such sportsmanship and dignity. If only for those reasons, I maybe understand a little more of what draws so many in. That and the rabbits - I like rabbits.

Hi Martyn, It was so wonderful to see you perform in Vancouver at the charity event on 17th Ave. Mike and Lisa introduced us (Ben & Geri) to you. I have now become a big fan and totally appreciate your poetic songs and depth of character. You are a big inspiration to me. Please visit my own website at gerisrecoverymusic.com. I am a singer/songwriter too and haven't seen anyone in a long time that made me feel like writing again. Thanks for your love, songs and gifts. Love, Geri

Thank you Martyn for making the trek to the Vancouver Island Music fest in the Comox Valley. In the serenity of the Woodland stage you captured many new fans. From shedding tears for "Five Sisters" to laughing light heartedly in "Vegas" and everything in between, the power of your performance touched me deeply. I will spread the word of Martyn (with a Y) Joseph to all I know. Please, please, please, do come back sooner than later. Steve Kelly

Canada's love affair with you continues, too. A friend of mine raved about you so I was glad to check you out live at the Vancouver Island Music Festival. Thank you for your wonderful concert on the Woodland Stage Sunday. Soulful stuff. After you immersed yourself in the crowd at the end, I overheard a woman asking her friend, "Were you close enough to touch him?"

Hi Martyn, Thanks a lot for the great evening at Wellington last Friday together with Steve Knightley. We really loved the music, we laughed a lot and enjoyed the whole thing. It was worth coming 'all the way from Flanders' (and it's certainly something to do again!). You can certainly expect us again in October when you're coming back to Belgium (hopefully I can conveince some friends to come with)! Can't wait... Thank you so much for a glorious evening of song and laughter at the Wellington Arts Centre last night with yourself and Steve Knightley. A superb selection of specially arranged songs from each of you and also candid insights into the approach each of you takes to your craft. Throw in some laughs, Steve in sandals, a thumping bassline from across the road and an MJ dance master class and you've got a party! The dancing notwithstanding, it really was a joy and a privilege to be there. :0) It was a really special night and a few words of thanks here can never do such things justice but they are sincerely offered and come with our best wishes for a successful run of dates in America and Canada. Safe journeys and see you at Pipefest!! Steve & Becky.

Great to see you in Minehead a couple of weeks ago - Fi and I have been listening to you for a very long time but never got to a gig, so it was great at last. It was also great to get some more CDs - buying decent music in Somerset is like trying to knit fog these days! I'm just sorry tonight in Welly has sold out as it's just down the road, but heigh-ho (I'm working anyway!) Hope the file gets some use - having a nail tech as a fan can help sometimes!!!

Saw you last night at the Globe in Topsham with Steve. What a brilliant gig - you compliment each other so well and the songs which you both produce are amazing. Loving the Evolved C.D. - particularly the song about Dic Penderyn as I've just discovered I have a family history link to him !!! Keep the music in your heart and hope to see you again at the Barnfield in December.

Hi Martyn, Top gig in Devoran last night, you really blew Knightley away (when he could manage to stay on the stage). It must be quite tedious having to pack two of everything to compensate for all the kit he forgets. Did he have a rock & roll 'Excess All Areas' night in Topsham the day before or do you think we ought to start thinking about looking for an Old Folkies home for him! I've also reported him to the RSPCA for the incident with the rabbit. Hope you didn't find the experience too off-putting, we're not ALL like that in Cornwall. Of course, Devoran is technically south coast so you've got to expect it to be a bit 'League of Gentlemen' down there. Come by again, will you, but try the north side of the peninsula next time, not the dark side!

Thank you again Martyn for two spectacular gigs last weekend; at Minehead and also Hitchin. Minehead was for me a unique and extra special show which will always remain with me, (you're welcome back here anytime!!) and the gig at Hitchin on the Sunday sealed the weekend. Both gigs were full of stunning performances; old and new songs alike, all coming together beautifully. The new songs stand as some of the finest of your career, in my humble opinion. We're now looking forward to your gig with Steve on Friday in Wellington! Keep walking...

Martyn, another unforgettable set at Hitchin tonight. I realised while I was listening to You Being Woman more attentively than usual that it's a song which captures one unique part of your ability and underpins a lot of other things too. You take your song writing into places where very few male writers ever go; you're not afraid of showing your vulnerability and it enables you to express feelings and emotions deeply rather than superficially. The lump in the throat and the tear in the eye happen more often at your gigs than any other. Add those elements to any MJ live experience and it lives with you for a long, long time. And the new songs you shared tonight, Comfort of Strangers, Brothers in Exile and I'm On My Way were simply wonderful. Thanks again David

Ha! I do like the (reluctant) diarist's latest blog... I mean entry. How often one finds oneself typing away convinced that no-one is ever going to read it, and if they do, less likely to care. Strange that we should feel that we're being rude if we don't update our 'status' or whatever every 10 minutes. Perhaps it's ruder still to assume that anyone really gives a fig! Not so here, Martyn. Always good to hear what you're up to and what we have to look forward to. It does sound as if there are exciting developments ahead too so please keep us posted. They laughed and related to Vegas having lived out there for a while, and that was them hooked! I've never sung so much in a gig - at your instruction I might add! It was amazing to hear 'I Will Follow' again and to have some other songs to search out, particularly your version of John Mayer's version of Free Fallin' which was breathtaking. Dear Martyn and Stewart, Thanks for a beautiful Kentisbeare evening of poetry, laughter, music, and some pretty nifty dance moves in the case of Stewart. Sunday Night Fever? Performers' Question Time was a great way to bring the audience in, and I enjoyed coming up with the artists' nickname question. Every musician worth his or her salt should have one. It was great sharing the evening with like minded people who had all come along to see what you both do best. Just as physics proved on Thursdays that time stood still, so, conversely, three hours of joy flew by. Great to say hello and thanks to Martyn after the gig. Just as at previous gigs I found myself heading home with a great big, silly grin on my face. Come back to Devon again soon. Best wishes, Simon

I loved the emphasis on the new songs, much as I love hearing the older ones (first time I've seen you with no Dic Penderyn!) My wife and I took you up on your offer to dance to "Turn me tender" at the end of the show. I keep bringing friends and they have yet to be disappointed with this 'gamble' on their part of seeing someone they've never seen or heard of. Again thanks. It's a bit of a balm to a welsh man living in Canada - I'm starting to get to know some of the guys who keep turning up at the Ottawa-ish gigs. It's a bit of a meeting point for us now.

Martyn, just a quick thanks for sharing your music. It is truly special to find a musician who plays with the honesty you do. Please come back to London soon, Bush Hall last November was spectacular! I hope you have good travels over the next few months! Julia

I want to thank you, Martyn, for being an inspration. I had the pleasure of watching your concert in Edmonton last night and it was amazing. You have such a presence on stage. I remember a point during the concert last night when i looked around the theatre and everyone was smiling and singing, and the love was so thick in the air i could hardly see. It blew me away. You instill such emotion in your audience, fill them with the emotion, love and the passion you have for your music, and obviously for this world, too. That is an inspiration to all of us, seeing you share your love and passion with others, for no other purpose than just the sharing. It is that spirit of union and community and inspiration that you create with your audience that helps inspire others to do the same (at least it has inspired me). Thank you for sharing yourself and your art with this world, and thank you for inspiring me to find a way to do the same.

It took me until today to listen to this song. The image on the diary page had already left its mark and I knew that this song would prove to be the soundtrack to accompany it. Therefore I listened... and looked. As before Martyn, you have encapsulated so much of the terrible reality of a situation and turned it into something that gives voice to the feelings of many; words and music speaking more clearly than any politician's rhetoric could ever hope to. Like Penny, I will be passing it on. Oh that it would reach the ears (and hearts) of those with some influence. As things subside a little, it's hard to feel much relief when there is no real solution as yet and when these tragic tales have been written. Both versions of this tremendous songs are horribly beautiful. And each time you sang the final line, it floored me. Thank you.
Neil left a message on 18-01-2009 04:41:53
A beautiful and raw song about a tragic issue that many would wish to avoid. What struck me was that, just as in Good in me is Dead, there is a real connection and empathy with the people involved, people who are different in many ways to us and have experienced things that many of us would only experience in our nightmares. This also came out in the emotion in the voice, Martyn has a great ability of not only portraying emotion and in his lyrics but also in his voice. As with many other of Martyn songs, it doesn't provide any answers but leaves you asking questions and challenging yourself and those around. Thank you

Just listened to the new 5 sisters track. As ever, you capture the essence of the situation more simply and more eloquently than any politician can. Whatever the rights and wrongs, whatever the generations of hatred, it all comes down to the fundmental human right to live a decent, peaceful existence that contains at least some hope.....

I've just download and listened to Five Sisters. I can't say I enjoyed it, for obvious reasons, but I think this is what Martyn does best - telling someone's story by getting to the heart of the matter. I'll be passing it on to others. Please keep raising awareness in this way Martyn. x
Steph left a message on 16-01-2009 08:25:23
Last night on the radio, Martyn said the best songs come when you have something to say. Five Sisters proves the point. An incredibly powerful song and a beautiful tribute to these children. Thank you Martyn for articulating the personal side of war so well, and for speaking up on behalf of those who can't. Thank you. xxx

Man....I was just thinking how I'd love to see another show, as I've only ever seen Martyn last year for the first time. Then the other day I see that he's playing a house concert in Fall River, Nova Scotia - what?????? A mere 5 min drive from my office and 20 min from home!!! I must say, I didn't see that one coming. I immediately got some tickets and can't wait until Feb. There must be an easier way..........

Just wanted to say it was great to finally get round to seeing you live - Bush Hall, London. I've been a fan for a good number of years and your words and music have long resonated with me, seeking to find a meaning in this crazy world of ours. Keep up the good work and keep on with the ponderings. All the best for 2009.

Thanks very much for a great concert in Exeter back in October. My only regret is that I only came across your music this year. Reading the other messages I can see that you've got a devoted following, and I'm not surprised as the quality of your beautiful, thought-provoking songs are a real lift. As for the gig, you were so chilled and enthusiastic it really came across to the audience, and I'm sure I wasn't the only one grinning like a maniac all the way home. I was also lucky enough to see Show of Hands play at their local recently. Steve Knightley signed the beautiful Bridgerow Sessions cd. He said you can ad lib with the best of them, as we witnessed at The Barnfield. So, new to your music as I am, I can't wait for the gig at Kentisbeare. Thanks again and have a very happy Christmas, Martyn. All the best. Simon

You never fail to deliver, give it 100% and send me away with something to think about. That little hideaway venue in Stockton was such a warm and friendly place to be on a cold and wet November night. Didn't want it to end, it leaves me wanting more. Thanks Martyn. See you again soon.

Have seen MJ almost every year since we first saw him supporting CdB. Went to the gig at 'The Arches' in Glasgow on Saturday and once again was not dissapointed. Loved the cool exit from the stage Martyn. One comment. Although the Arches may be a great venue accoustically, you can hear the punters in the other parts of the club. Rather off-puting. How's about trying for King Tuts again next time?

It has taken us 6 years to get to a MJ gig: chiefly because we have never managed to be in the right country at the right time. Finally got there last night, and we were not disappointed! The passion that comes across on the albums pales compared to the raw energy of the live show. A great night.

I first saw Martyn in the late 80s - early 90s (Reading/Fareham/Newbury '91) when my wife introduced me to his music. Then left it a while (15 years!) before coming again when I wanted to take my wife out for her birthday (2006 Southampton gig, with Stewart Henderson). Have since been to Hitchen, Basingstoke (not far that one!) and now Norwich (31/10/2008). All of them amazing! Sorry for the 15 year gap ;-(

You have brought me many a wonderfilled moment with your beautiful songs. Especially Cardiff Bay never fails to put into a certain mood that creates an atmosphere of a state of different realization if I was to put it into words. It's a feeling I can't normally trigger just so, but this song pulls it right out of me. Thanks for your beautiful music. Carry on, you are doing a great job! Hope I can hear you live one day. Cardiff last night was one of my favourite live shows ever, by anyone. Martyn sounds incredible, he has raised the bar yet again and I believe this will be his best ever tour. Some new songs, some new takes on old songs and some classics. Incredible night, as was Exeter on Friday. Great to hear people who thought one gig this tour would be enough trying to see where they could drop another one in! 2 fantastic gigs by a world class musician. Thank you to everyone involved! x

The Barnfield. Exeter. Martyn was astounding. A brilliant, fun, joyous evening in the presence of such a gifted performer..so glad not to have missed it. If anyone was thinking he can not better the Vegas tour, awesome as that was, you'd be wrong... On Saturday in Cardiff at The Point, Mr Joseph proved the point and Wales needs to be proud of their valley boy. If you are hesitating about buying those tickets for the gig near you, don't... if you are hesitating about buying those tickets for that gig miles away...don't. you'll be part of an incredible experience...and blessed.

The Barnfield, Exeter - A beautiful mix of light and shade as only MJ can produce. A wonderful evening of great music and great company. Thanks to Martyn and the team for a truly glorious night. As it is with the new album, so it is with this tour - Martyn has never sounded better or more vital. MK feels like an age away! Every blessing to you, Martyn.

We saw Martyn at Penzance last night at the start of the tour: it was stunning. As an exiled Welshman it was a delight to hear virtually every "Welsh song" he's written - beginning with Please Sir which brought back memories of my grandfather who was killed underground. It was also a joy to hear some of the Evolved gems such as Strange Way and Dic Penderyn. We went home feeling privileged to have been part of the evening ... even to have witnessed the Elvis impersonaton! Every blessing Martyn, musical nurse of tangles souls!
